The house that we know for Ca la Florinda is the third that has been constructed on the same site. The first was erected to the last quarter of the 18th century. The second was constructed from 1841 and their owners, grandparents of the Florinda, fitted it out like hostel-tavern. The third and last, constructed from the year 1888 for Josep Urgell Ramelló –father of the Florinda-, is a clear example of architecture Spanish-American.
Constructed with innovative materials –use of solid brick instead of stone- and introducing comforts that then were not usual to the village of Bellvei, how it was the system of running water that reached of the water of the cistern placed at the entry of the house, where there was also a press. At present, the cistern, the press and the ancient walls of solid brick can be seen at the entry of the house.
On to burst the civil war, in July of 1936, the Florinda and her sister Antònia, they hanged the American flag on the balcony in order to give to understand that they did not have anything to do with that confrontation and that was left them alone. Ca La Florinda was also known, by this fact, for Ca L’Americana, for the anecdote of the flag.
In 2005, the family Urgell Rocías completely restored the house preserving the original architecture, adapting it to the current comforts, having the vineyard and the wine as a referent.
